Athletics
This
sport gained popularity in all the countries, including Armenia, very
quickly. In December 1990 the Federation of Athletics was founded in
Armenia, where Razmik Aivazyan – lecturer of the SEUA Chair of Physical
Training and Sport, a multiple champion, an RA record-holder and a master
of sports made a significant contribution. He was elected the President
of the Federation of Athletics of Armenia.
Athletics championships of Armenia have been held since 1990. In 1996-2000
the Representative Team of SEUA was the winner of these championships.
The achievements of the SEUA athletes met the international standards.
In 2002, owing to the great efforts of Gagik Saroyan, the instructor
of the SEUA Chair of Physical Training and Sport, the Federation of
Powerlifting of Armenia became a full member of the International Federation.
In 2002 the National Team participated in the Juniors’ World Championship
for the first time where Edmond Bernetyan took the second place and
Samson Avagyan took the third place.
The Representative Team of SEUA always won both the student and republican
championships owing to the athletes:
Armen Manoucharyan, Samson Khachatryan, Arman Ghazaryan, Gor Saribekyan,
Suren Bagdoyan and Arthur Khachatryan.
